Working with Pixton!

Pixton | Generador de cómics para colegios y ámbito educativo

Hi! After taking a look to some of the blogs my partners created, I really felt curious about the Pixton activity proposed by María Teresa Quesada, in her blog: https://learnenglishwithtete.blogspot.com/2023/05/my-experience-with-pixton.html

I used Storyjumper with my students in the 3rd grade instead of Pixton, but now I will give it a try! However, I have decided to use Pixton with my students in the 5th grade, who are working on places to go on holidays. I have planned the following steps to carry out the task:

1. First, I will describe the task to my students, getting them to know that they will create their own comic. Then, I will give them a short tutorial on how to use Pixton, and as an example, we will see the comic created by the students of my partner María Teresa.

2. On the second session, my students will start creating their comics, in groups of three. They need to follow the topic to do so: "Our happy holidays!", in which they need to create a comic explaining their perfect holidays plan. In this session, they will do the writing part of the comic.

3. The third session will also be dedicated to the creation of their Pixton. Needless to say, they can count on supportive material such as online dictionaries, flashcards, the textbook, and of course my help, if they have any issues when working on their comic. In this session, they will record themselves for the oral part of the comic.

4. Finally, I will put together all their comics, like María Teresa did, with the title "HAPPY HOLIDAYS", and we will show all the comics together to comment on our classmates pieces of work (peer evaluation) and discuss about the final result.

I have planned another extra session between the third and the fourth one, in case my students may need more time to prepare their comics.

The objective of this task is that my students work in small groups (becoming to agreements, making decisions, taking into account everyone's opinion...), and that they put into practice their oral and written skills through a motivating activity (creating a comic) about an attractive topic (holidays).

Lastly, I want to thank my colleague for the inspiration, and also the rest of the "classmates" for their excellent work, from which I have learned a lot.

Sara.

  1. Hi Sara!
First of all, thank you for commenting my blog and appreciating my work in which I used PIxton.
Having a look at your blog, I can only congratulate you for your hard work. From a visual perspective, I think your blog is really appealing. The template you chose invites you to read it. What is more, from you blog, I cannot deny you have really put into practice the knowledge we have acquired during this course.
I really like the activity in which you used TIMETOAST to work on both past simple and a core aspect of the British culture, as the royal family. I may copy your idea to implement it in my 1st of Compulsory Secondary Education lessons.

From your blog, it seems to me you are one of those teachers are always trying to engage their students with motivating tasks and projects.
